Last night Steve and I had supper with friends. Our friends have no children (yet) and so we escaped the noise and chaos of our house for their peacefull, clean, calm house. It was a great night.
I called Steve as I was leaving the house – wanting to give him a ‘heads up’ on my ETA. He mentioned that there was freezing rain falling in the city and he he wasn’t sure if us spending the night and having to drive home down the highways later on would be such a wise thing! Pasha! There was nothing that was going to keep me home last night! I had a shower, I shaved my legs. I was dressed and I was going to be alone in the car for an hour….that is sort of my definition of a spa at the moment.
It took a little longer than I thought – there was a moose wandering the highway in the snow storm…not something I wanted to hit with my mini van! By the time I made it there I was so excited. Supper was wonderful. The company was great. Steve and I ate our supper in silence. We didn’t get up and down and up again….things we do on a nightly basis. I watched my friend decorate her tree. I played with her cat. We watched a stupid movie and I actually liked it.
By the time we left I was a little concerened about the weather and the condition the roads would be in. But oh well, it was so worth it. Turned out to be a rough ride home. Steve’s vehichle died for no apparent reason and was left on the side of highway with the hazards on. I hope it made it through the night (white truck in a white out)!! Thankfully we were traveling together. He had a way home and wasn’t stranded on the side of the road; and I had his company in my van.
We did make it home in one piece. The roads were horrible. There were white out conditions alot of the way home, and roads were very icy. We passed a few cars in the ditch and not once did a big truck pass me because I was going too slow. It was worth it though. A night of good food with good friends and no screaming children is priceless!
