New Years Night Out

Welcome 2013. I am excited for another year that lays ahead and the life that we will live. 2012 was a big year for our family. Daughters in school full-time, returning to work full-time, family vacations and relationship strengthening. All in all, it was a very good year for the four of us. To celebrate the last day of the year we went out to celebrate with our children for the first time since having our children. Thank goodness for an afternoon nap or I am not too sure how the evening might have turned up. But,with a little sleep the, our last night of the year was a bang!
Our evening started off at Rexall Place and an Edmonton Oil Kings game. Our family is a hockey family (although none of us play) and with the NHL lockout, we were all missing the game. Thankfully, Santa brought us all tickets. And what a game it was. We beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-2. There were some beautiful shots, a hat trick and some wicked punches. Not to mention cotton candy and french fries and pop! As it was the start of a long night we figured loading up with sugar was an acceptable activity.
After the game we headed down town to city hall (after a scenic tour of Candy Cane Lane of course) for the capitals new years party which was in full swing. There were horse-drawn wagon rides, face painters, stilt walkers, musical entertainment, ice skating, food stands, disco hoola hoopers and fire jugglers. There was even a very lovely gentlemen who took a picture of us before we headed into the snow fort area for a snow ball fight. The weather was warm. In fact, it warmed up as the night went on. By the time the fireworks were over it was 0!
Thanks to the Edmonton Journal, we have a wonderful shot of the festivities of last night. 25 thousand people partying in Churchill Square! It’s great practice for the 4 of us. One of these years we plan on being in Times Square.
Wherever you were for the last night of 2012 I hope it was beautiful and magical. I hope that the new year bring you peace and love, health and happiness. Happy New Year!
